Overcome the Intermediate Plateau in 3 months
Reach the B2 Level with a complete course that’ll teach you the Portuguese language and culture through authentic conversations with real people
Portuguese with leo in numbers
Can you relate to this?
You can get by in Portuguese, but you still struggle with nuance and subtle differences in meaning.
You can follow slow, “learner-friendly” Portuguese, but you lose the thread when people speak fast, swallow words, jump between ideas and use colloquial language.
You have the vocabulary, but you still don’t sound natural. Your sentences feel translated, and you’re never quite sure what sounds “right” in European Portuguese.
No matter how much you study, you feel like you're forever a "learner of Portuguese" but not a "speaker of Portuguese".

If you can relate to any of this and want to develop real confidence speaking Portuguese, then you’ve come to the right place!
What STUDENTS say about MY COURSES
This is a new course, so there are no reviews for it yet. But check out what students who completed the B1 course have to say. Many of them were already waiting for this one!
I had been struggling to make progress with my Portuguese, having moved to Portugal a couple of years ago. Then I discovered Leo’s B1 Course and made a great leap forward: not only is his course interesting and fun, it is pedagogically very well thought out, with listening that I could finally understand, very useful idiomatic language, complex grammar points described in a simple of real-life context, and insightful cultural sections too. My confidence has been boosted enormously by the comprehension exercises in particular. I understand everything Leo says in Portuguese! I can’t wait to start B2 and continue to progress.

This B1 Course is brilliant. I speak some Portuguese and had tried to teach myself and had looked into various courses both online and face to face but never found anything that really worked…until this!
The material is interesting and engaging, the grammatical and vocabulary items extremely well-chosen, level appropriate and relevant and most importantly, the explanations are really clear and helpful. I finally understand some of the more complex areas such as the personal infinitive! The fact that it is all delivered in Portuguese (with the option of following the transcript) is also brilliant as it adds another level of learning and practice. I loved the fact that we didn’t get all the course material at once as it kept me motivated and engaged and working at a steady pace. Providing prompts to cue AI to provide corrections on things I had written and the Q&A at the end of each unit were also invaluable resources and in conjunction with the intermediate podcasts, you have everything you need to succeed at B1.
As someone who has taught people how to teach languages for over 40 years, there is no doubt that Leo understands both language and teaching and I feel very lucky to have found this course. I would 100% recommend it to anyone who wants to learn Portuguese.
Brilliant work Leo! Well done!
All we need now is the B2 course!

I’ve been living in Portugal for two years, and the B1 Course has helped me tremendously in improving my Portuguese - especially grammar, verb tenses, and pronunciation. I live in a completely Portuguese neighborhood in Coimbra, and the course has been essential for improving my conversations with my neighbors and helping me integrate better into the country. I now feel that I have a much wider vocabulary than when I started. I recommend the B1 Course to anyone who already has some basic knowledge of Portuguese and wants to gain confidence speaking day to day. I also really enjoyed the Cultural Moments and the way the story is told throughout the course!

I’m Finnish, and I’m learning Portuguese because my husband and son are Portuguese. It’s very important to me to be able to speak Portuguese with them and with my husband’s family. What I liked most about the B1 Course was the variety of content - there were grammar lessons, phonetics lessons, and Cultural Moments. The grammar lessons were especially important to me since I had never studied grammar before. I recommend the B1 Course to anyone who wants to learn Portuguese at their own pace and who is interested in Portugal!

I live in Portugal and already spoke Brazilian Portuguese, but I decided to learn European Portuguese. The B1 Course is excellent, and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to improve their European Portuguese. It’s important to have some foundation in the language, but if your goal is to speak and understand it better, this course is a great choice. I’ve already recommended it to several foreign friends who live here in Portugal! I truly admire Leo’s work - it’s always of the highest quality, professional, engaging, and above all, very useful for anyone using his materials.

You're the third teacher to explain the personal infinitive to me - but the first one who actually made me understand it. Thank you!

I’m really enjoying the step-by-step unlocking of each module of the B1 Course - it helps me solidify each lesson before moving on. If I had immediate access to everything, I know I’d end up rushing through it too quickly.
And I loved the explanation about contractions with object pronouns - it all makes sense now when I see them in messages!

I really enjoy Leo's podcasts, but I needed something more interactive - and the B1 Intermediate Course was perfect. I liked the format, David’s story was really interesting, and the grammar and Cultural Moments were very useful. I recommend it to anyone looking to improve their intermediate level of Portuguese. Thank you!

Hi Leo, I did Erasmus in Aveiro in 2017 and fell in love with the country and its culture! I just wanted to say that I’m really enjoying your B1 Course! Thank you so much for everything. I really admire your work! Thank you!

I really enjoyed the Cultural Moments in the B1 Course. I hope more people who visit Portugal take the time to learn a bit of Portuguese and also look into ways to help with the challenges that exist. Thank you so much for the course!
I loved the style of the lessons - they’re short, clearly explained, and easy to follow, even for beginners. It’s great to be able to learn from a native Portuguese speaker and hear the language used naturally. I also found it really helpful to repeat the sentences out loud and hear how they’re pronounced correctly. I feel like I’m finally gaining the confidence to speak and understand Portuguese better.

I really enjoyed the B1 Course because it’s very well structured. One big plus is how methodical it is - there are videos, virtual conversations, crossword puzzles, and I especially liked the concept of exercises corrected by ChatGPT. It’s amazing and works really well.
Another highlight is the chapter breakdowns. You give examples, explain things clearly, go over everything again, and give feedback. It really helped me a lot!

Learn as you watch
In this course, you will meet some of my close friends and family members. Each one talks about a topic that touches on culture, everyday life, and what it really means to live in Portugal.
These conversations are the foundation of every lesson. As you watch, interactive notes appear throughout, breaking down sentence structures, grammar concepts, useful vocabulary, and pronunciation in real time.

Why learn through authentic conversations
We learn best when the content is real, interesting, and meaningful. That’s exactly what authentic conversations give you: real voices, real ideas, and real Portuguese spoken the way you’ll actually hear it in Portugal!
You’ll want to keep listening
Real conversations are naturally engaging. You’re not “studying a topic”, you’re following real people, with opinions, stories and personalities, which keeps you engaged and making progress.
Vocabulary sticks because it’s connected to a person
When expressions come from real people, they’re easier to remember and to reuse. You’re not memorizing words; you’re remembering how real people use the language.
The conversation comes first
The conversations are natural and unscripted, which means you learn grammar and vocabulary the way they appear in real speech, not in artificial dialogues
You’ll get ready for real life in Portugal
From Portuguese food culture, to our relationship with money and work, each conversation focuses on a topic people actually discuss in real life.

Olá, sou o leo!
Olá! My name is Leonardo, and I’m your Portuguese teacher! I’ve helped thousands of students learn through my courses, podcasts and YouTube videos, where I explore Portuguese culture and break down complex language concepts into simple explanations.
This course brings together all my experience, offering an engaging blend of language and culture that will help you improve your Portuguese naturally.

What you will experience
After overcoming the intermediate plateau, you'll go from being a “language learner” to being a “language user”.
Effortless comprehension
Follow native conversations, podcasts, and TV with far less effort, even when it’s fast and messy.
Speak with nuance and sound natural
Share opinions, explain your reasoning, and express yourself in Portuguese that feels natural, not translated from your native language
Real connection in Portugal
Make friends more easily, join group conversations, and feel genuinely included in everyday moments: dinners, jokes, small talk, and deeper chats.
A bridge to advanced Portuguese
Build a solid B2-level base that makes the jump to advanced Portuguese feel realistic and achievable
Who is this course for?
This course is for anyone who’s learning Portuguese as a foreign language and wants to reach or solidify the B2 Level — Upper Intermediate
It’s perfect for you if
You have an intermediate level of Portuguese (B1 level) and want to overcome the plateau.
You want to learn Portuguese naturally through exposure to authentic conversations suited to your level.
You’re interested in not just learning the language, but also getting to know Portugal and its culture.
You can understand about 50% of my YouTube videos without subtitles.
It’s not for you if
Your level is too advanced (a solid C1 or above on the CEFR scale).
Your level is too low (if you're at an A2 level, check out my B1 course!)
You don’t want to study at home at your own pace.
You're not willing to study regularly every week.

Have Any questions?
Find the answers to common questions about the B2 Program.
Who is this course for?
This course is ideal for anyone who wants to overcome the intermediate plateau and reach the B2 level. B2 is where you go from being a language learner to a language speaker: you'll be able to use Portuguese independently and speak confidently with native speakers.
What if I'm not sure whether to take the B1 or B2 course?
You can take the placement test on my website or email me at contact@portuguesewithleo.com, and I'll point you in the right direction. And if you join and it turns out you're on the wrong course, I'll switch you to the right one at no extra cost.
What's the difference between this course and your YouTube videos?
In my YouTube videos, I cover a wide range of topics - from Portuguese Culture and History to pronunciation tips and quick grammar explanations. This course, on the other hand, is a structured 3-month program that is specifically designed to take you step by step through all the grammar structures, useful vocabulary and real-life communication skills you need to reach a B2 level in European Portuguese.
Are the lessons live or pre-recorded?
All video lessons are pre-recorded and include Portuguese subtitles, interactive exercises and an accompanying PDF. You can watch them anytime, as many times as you want, both online and offline!
What happens when I join the course?
You’ll receive a confirmation email with a link to access the course, along with instructions on how to get started. The first module will be available immediately, and new modules will be unlocked weekly. This pacing is intentional, since it gives you enough time to fully absorb each module before moving on.
Can I follow this course offline?
Yes. You can download the video lessons and materials for each module, which means that you don’t need to be connected to the internet to follow the course.
How long do I have access to the course for?
Once you've signed up, you have lifetime access to the course, which means you can revisit the lessons whenever you'd like and benefit from any future updates at no extra cost.
Can I use the course certificate for Portuguese citizenship?
No, the certificate from this course cannot be used for Portuguese citizenship applications. Portugal requires an official A2-level exam called CIPLE (Certificado Inicial de Português Língua Estrangeira), which is issued by CAPLE (Centro de Avaliação de Português Língua Estrangeira).
However, this course follows the same CEFR standards (Common European Framework of Reference) used in official exams, ensuring that you develop your Portuguese in a structured and effective way. By reaching the B2 level, you’ll be well-prepared for the official exam (should you ever decide to take it), and will also gain confidence in real-life conversations and interactions in Portugal.
Why is the price in US dollars and not in other currencies?
The platform I use to host the course, Teachable, does not support automatic currency conversion. Since I have students from all over the world, I had to choose a single currency, and USD is the most practical option as it is the global reserve currency.
Additionally, Teachable only allows PayPal payments for courses priced in USD. If I offered the course in any other currency, PayPal would not be available as a payment method.
What’s the refund policy?
If for any reason you don't like the course, you have 30 days to send me an email at contact@portuguesewithleo.com and I'll issue a full refund, no questions asked
Do you have more questions?
Send us an email at contact@portuguesewithleo.com.
We answer within 24-36 hours.
